About Nagpur
Nagpur is the second capital and the third largest city in the state of Maharashtra, after Mumbai and Pune. It lays dead centre of the country with the Zero Mile marker indicating the geographical centre of India. The city was founded by the Gonds and later became a part of the Maratha Empire under the royal Bhonsale dynasty.
It is a major commercial and political centre of the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. It is also the 13th largest urban agglomeration in India and the largest city in the Vidarbha region. Nagpur has the best literacy rate, approx 93.13 percent among Indian cities with more than 20 lakhs population in India.
It is also known as the-Orange City - for being a major trade centre of oranges cultivated in the region. Nagpur is also called the - Tiger Capital of India – for its many popular tiger reserves.
Demographics:
As per the 2011 Census, Nagpur municipality had a population of 2,905,421, while the urban agglomeration had a population of approx 3,123,911. The city is divided into 10 zones, which are, in turn, divided into 145 wards.
In 2004, it was ranked the fastest-growing city in India in terms of the number of households with an annual income of INR 1 crore (10 million) or more. It was ranked the 11th most competitive city in the country by the Institute for Competitiveness in its 2012 report.
Transport & Infra:
Nagpur enjoys excellent connectivity by air, road and rail with four major metros namely Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata. Nagpur is a key railway hub with almost all major trains passing through it. (NMPL) buses cater to the city's public transport needs. It has a fleet of approx 470 low-floor Star Buses
Koradi and Khaparkheda are the two major thermal power stations located near Nagpur and operated by MSPGCL. NTPC has a super thermal power plant in Mauda around 40 km from Nagpur whose first plant has been commissioned.
Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) multi-modal international airport and a multi-product SEZ over 4,025 hectares, will be a major driver of economic growth not only for Nagpur, but also for the entire Vidarbha region.
With a projected target of serving 14 million passengers and handling 0.87 million tonnes of cargo, the MIHAN project is one of the largest aviation projects undertaken in India.
A proposed new express highway on the Nagpur–Aurangabad–Mumbai route is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the cities of Nagpur and Mumbai. Domestic airlines including Jet Airways, Indigo and GoAir connect Nagpur with most major cities in India.Qatar Airways has a bi-weekly service from Doha to Nagpur.

Proximity and Landmarks Near Nagpur
Gavilgad Fort: Located at a height of about 370 ft above sea level, historians believe that it is 200-300 years old.
Lonar Lake: It is the third largest natural salt-water lake in the world, after Bosmatvi Lake in Ghana.
Adasa: This small village is the site of the ancient Ganesh temple, which houses a statue of the deity, believed to have been self-evolved.
Futala Lake: Built by Bhosle kings of Nagpur, the lake is known for its coloured fountains.
Khernakala: It is a renowned tourist spot that is home to a beautiful dam on the fringes of a forest.
