Mumbai authorities have successfully launched a new foot overbridge that directly connects Metro Line 3's CSMIA–T2 station with Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), officials announced in August 2025. The new infrastructure promises to transform passenger experience by eliminating the lengthy walk through busy city roads.

Engineering Excellence Behind the 100-Meter Bridge

The newly constructed overbridge stands 23 metres above ground level with a total length of approximately 100 metres and a width of 4.3 metres. Engineering teams reported that the structure maintains a height clearance of 3 metres and utilized structural steel for optimal durability. The project presented unique challenges as construction teams had to position the bridge carefully above the under-construction Metro Line 7A infrastructure, making the entire engineering process particularly complex.

Significant Reduction in Walking Distance for Passengers

Airport authorities revealed that passengers previously faced a 450-metre walk while crossing busy roads to reach the terminal from the metro station. The new overbridge has dramatically reduced this distance to just 118 metres, creating a more luggage-friendly and convenient journey for travelers. Officials emphasized that this improvement addresses one of the most significant pain points for metro users seeking direct airport access.

Municipal authorities have announced plans for a 1-kilometre subway connecting Acharya Atre Chowk Metro station, Mahalaxmi Racecourse, and the Coastal Road parking hub. An additional 160-metre arm will provide connections to nearby public spaces. Both upcoming projects will feature lifts and escalators to ensure accessibility for all passengers, officials confirmed.
