Maharashtra government evaluates extending the under-construction Borivli-Thane tunnel by four kilometers to connect with the Saket-Gaimukh Coastal Road, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Five ring roads are being built as part of a megacity inter-linking project to improve traffic flow and connectivity. The proposed Orange Gate tunnel will link the Freeway and Coastal Road at Marine Drive on the southernmost ring road. Mumbai will connect to Thane, Palghar, and Alibaug.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar says the Sewri-Worli link would open in December 2025. Furthermore, 37km of new Metro lines will be inaugurated this fiscal year.
