Thane Coastal Road Project - Update 2023

The much-anticipated Thane Coastal road, which is intended to alleviate congestion on the Ghodbunder road, is likely to gain momentum as the MMRDA is expected to begin its tendering process shortly, according to officials.

In its February 2023 meeting, the MCZMA analysed the project's characteristics and recommended their approval to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEF & CC).

There is no doubt that this project will surely uplift the entire Thane real estate market in a big way, bringing a lot of new real estate investors as well as actual home buyers in Thane.

The MCZMA has proposed modifications to the route of the highway, which consists of a combination of tunnels and elevated roadways, in order to reduce the impact on the mangroves.

According to SVR Srinivas, metropolitan commissioner at the MMRDA, which is executing the project, a final sanction from the MOEF & CC was awaited after the MCZMA recommended the project.

They have simultaneously begun work on the tendering process for the project, which is estimated to cost approximately Rs 2,000 crore and will include interchanges at both ends, one midway, and a few other modifications.
