Adani Properties has outbid competitors to secure Mumbai's prestigious Rs 36,000 crore Motilal Nagar redevelopment project spanning 143 acres in Goregaon. This marks the conglomerate's second major Mumbai urban renewal venture after the Dharavi project.

The $3 billion Dharavi redevelopment project, led by the Adani Group, kicks off with Phase 1 construction on a 6.4-acre railway land parcel, aiming to transform Asia's largest slum into a modern urban hub.

The state cabinet accepted the transfer of 140 acres of Malwani and Aksa property from the suburban collector for the ambitious Dharavi Redevelopment Project. Land will be utilised for rental homes for slum inhabitants ineligible for free housing under the project.

The state government is granting developers Floor Space Index to overcome legal issues regarding salt pan land availability in Dharavi's redevelopment. In return for building rental accommodation for ineligible Dharavi inhabitants, the saleable components of the project will get an FSI of 1.33.

Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, said the Dharavi rehabilitation project is more than urban regeneration; it will change the lives of nearly one million people in one of the world's greatest slums. Adani said at Mumbai's Jai Hind College that the project would restore Dharavi's dignity.

A special purpose vehicle set up by the government with Adani Realty as the lead developer, the Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL), and the Slum Rehabilitation Authority have sought 1,255 acres from various government agencies.

At Kamla Raman Nagar in Mumbai's Dharavi slum, counting houses and people began on Monday to determine who receives a free house. Big plans are in the works for Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL), directed by S VR Srinivas.
