Mumbai's vehicular congestion problem is set to receive a significant relief with the introduction of the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road. This innovative project, featuring two underground tunnels spanning 4.70 kilometers from Goregaon East, promises to streamline travel and reduce journey times substantially.

The initiative marks a crucial development for motorists, offering a swift passage through one of Mumbai's busiest corridors. Authorized by the Mumbai Municipality, this project is currently in the preliminary survey phase, tackling the challenge of tunnel alignment and construction complexities head-on.

From Hours to Minutes: A new speed of Commuting

Traditionally, a trip from Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road to Mulund, Thane, could take up to an hour and a half, primarily due to relentless traffic jams. The new Link Road stands to transform this journey into a mere 15 to 20-minute delight, with the tunnels further reducing it to 5 to 10 minutes, heralding a significant shift in Mumbai’s commuting landscape.

Advanced Features for Safety and Efficiency

Mirroring the sophistication of coastal road tunnels, the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road will be equipped with state-of-the-art CCTV, firefighting systems, and speed monitoring facilities. A notable addition is the 1800 mm diameter underground water pipeline, ensuring uninterrupted water supply to Mumbai, doubling as a viable alternative to the existing overground channels.

Record-Breaking Infrastructure

The project boasts the longest tunnels in the country, each featuring three lanes and linking the Western Express Highway in Goregaon with the Eastern Express Highway near Mulund. The undertaking is not without its challenges, notably the completion within a five-year timeframe and minimal environmental impact on the Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Budget Adjustments for a Mega Project

Initially set at 12,013 crore rupees, the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road project sees an adjustment in its budget to accommodate utility service works, marking a pivotal step towards enhancing Mumbai’s infrastructure and improving the quality of life for its residents.
