Chennai Metro Line To Begin By Year-End

With an aim to facilitate development on the metro rail project in Chennai, the ministry has declared that assistance on the two elevated stretches would begin shortly while the underground stretch would be operational by the end of the year.

The Tamil Nadu ministry.On July 21, 2016, issued that the travellers services in the elevated stretches from Little Mount to the airport, and between Alandur and St Tomas Mount, would inaugurate shortly.

The passenger services in the first underground stretch will also begin by the end of third year, he said, adding that substantial development has been accomplished in the implementation of Phase I of the plan.

The metro rail service in Chennai was launched last year, between Koyambedu and Alandur- A10.15 km elevated stretch.

The government will expedite the proposal for Phase 2 of the metro line, covering two more corridors for stretch of 104.50 km.

I hope that these efforts will strengthen the metro line network in Chennai, thereby providing a world-class public transport system he added.
