Mumbai Coastal Road North eyes Charkop helipad development to improve emergency services connectivity across the suburban network in early April 2026.

The Supreme Court is set to review a petition filed against the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) regarding the felling of mangrove tracts essential for the Coastal Road North project. The legal challenge centers on environmental compliance and pending final clearances for this major infrastructure initiative.

Mumbai's BMC has already spent over ₹19,443 crore on infrastructure in FY 2025–26, with roads, bridges, and sewage projects driving the city toward another record-breaking year in capital expenditure.

Mumbai's ambitious coastal road project reached a milestone this week when the 44-meter length linking the northbound coastal road to the Worli sea connection was erected. This improves city connections, although project completion is projected to take place next year.

As the last span of the northbound Mumbai Coastal Road is installed, it will connect smoothly to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL). The 44-meter bridge span arrived in Worli on Monday from Karanja Port in Navi Mumbai, ready for deployment on Tuesday with a backup on Wednesday.

The BMC expects one arm of the Mumbai Coastal Road arch bridge, connecting to the BWSL, to open tentatively on September 15, 2024. Civic sources anticipate the south-bound roadway to handle northbound Marine Drive-Bandra traffic when it opens.
