BMC launches ₹2,368 Cr plan to clear Deonar landfill, reclaim 110 hectares for Dharavi housing, and set up a biogas plant in Mumbai’s biggest waste project

Adani Properties has outbid competitors to secure Mumbai's prestigious Rs 36,000 crore Motilal Nagar redevelopment project spanning 143 acres in Goregaon. This marks the conglomerate's second major Mumbai urban renewal venture after the Dharavi project.

The $3 billion Dharavi redevelopment project, led by the Adani Group, kicks off with Phase 1 construction on a 6.4-acre railway land parcel, aiming to transform Asia's largest slum into a modern urban hub.

The state government is granting developers Floor Space Index to overcome legal issues regarding salt pan land availability in Dharavi's redevelopment. In return for building rental accommodation for ineligible Dharavi inhabitants, the saleable components of the project will get an FSI of 1.33.

Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, said the Dharavi rehabilitation project is more than urban regeneration; it will change the lives of nearly one million people in one of the world's greatest slums. Adani said at Mumbai's Jai Hind College that the project would restore Dharavi's dignity.

The long-anticipated Dharavi Redevelopment Project, covering nearly 600 acres in Mumbai’s core, is expected to commence construction within the next 6-8 months, according to SVR Srinivas, CEO of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) and the Slum Rehabilitation Authority of Maharashtra.

A special purpose vehicle set up by the government with Adani Realty as the lead developer, the Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL), and the Slum Rehabilitation Authority have sought 1,255 acres from various government agencies.

The largest slum in India, Dharavi, is undergoing a tremendous change. Adani Group and state government joint venture Dharavi Redevelopment Project Ltd. (DRPPL) has chosen 540 acres of suburban property to move 'ineligible' inhabitants for free homes.

The Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL), led by Adani Realty, seeks 334 tenements from government agencies like SPPL and Mhada to relocate residents and continue redevelopment. Negotiations are ongoing, with Mhada demanding Rs 641 crore in construction costs and interest.
