In a significant move to propel economic growth in Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spearheaded the inauguration and initiation of an array of development projects, with a collective worth exceeding Rs 20,000 crore, in Tiruchirappalli. These initiatives, unveiled on January 2, 2024, encompass diverse sectors like rail, road, oil and gas, and shipping, marking a momentous investment in the state’s infrastructure.

At the heart of these developments is the newly constructed terminal at Tiruchirappalli International Airport. This state-of-the-art facility, erected with an investment surpassing Rs 1,100 crore, is designed to accommodate over 44 lakh passengers annually and handle 3,500 passengers during peak hours, with its two-level structure.

The Prime Minister has also set the groundwork for significant road development projects. These include a vital 31-km four-lane road linking Mugaiyur to Marakkanam on NH-332A, enhancing connectivity to key locations like Mamallapuram, a world heritage site, and the Kalpakkam Atomic Power Plant. Additionally, he has dedicated five road projects to the nation, such as the 39-km four-lane Trichy-Kallagam section of NH-81 and the 80 km two-lane Karaikudi-Ramanathapuram section of NH-536. These projects are pivotal in connecting industrial and commercial hubs like Trichy and Srirangam.

Furthering the infrastructure enhancement, Modi has laid the foundation for a 323 km natural gas pipeline from Krishnagiri to Coimbatore, a segment of the KKBMPL II project by GAIL. He has also initiated the development of POL pipelines in Chennai's Vallur area and inaugurated the General Cargo Berth-II of Kamarajar Port.

The railway sector has not been left behind, with the PM dedicating the doubling of the 41.4 km Salem-Magnesite Junction-Omalur-Mettur Dam section and the 160 km Madurai-Tuticorin rail line section. He has also flagged off three electrification projects for railway lines, enhancing the rail network's efficiency and reach.
