The Maharashtra Cabinet revealed its approval for the comprehensive redevelopment of 4,973 residential units spread across 498 plots in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Nagar, located in Andheri West, during its meeting on Tuesday. Officials stated that the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority would spearhead this ambitious transformation of one of Mumbai's oldest residential colonies into a contemporary township.

Although designed primarily for affordable housing purposes, the area had evolved to accommodate film production facilities and a prominent acting institution, reflecting its changing character over three decades.
