In a firm move to curb the rise of unauthorized real estate developments, Karnataka's revenue minister Krishna Byregowda has announced that illegal land layout properties will be confiscated if district officials fail to prevent their formation. The directive came after a departmental review meeting and aligns with strict orders issued by the Supreme Court and reaffirmed by chief minister Siddaramaiah.

Government to Crack Down on Unauthorized Layouts

Byregowda revealed that deputy commissioners across all 31 districts have been instructed to act against the rampant mushrooming of illegal layouts. In cases where prevention is not feasible, the government intends to confiscate the properties in question. The minister also urged citizens to refrain from purchasing plots in such illegal layouts, cautioning that buyers risk losing their investments.

Warning to Property Buyers

Issuing a stern warning to the public, Byregowda advised against investing in properties without clear legal standing. He stated that citizens who purchase land in unauthorized layouts could end up forfeiting their ownership altogether.

Land Record Digitisation and Title Deeds Drive

The minister also provided updates on ongoing land governance initiatives. He mentioned that a massive 18.2 crore documents have been digitised under the state’s land protection scheme. These documents are now accessible online, offering transparency and easier access for citizens.

Additionally, the government plans to distribute title deeds to one lakh beneficiaries in the initial phase, with an aim to double this number by year-end. These announcements precede the Congress government's second anniversary on May 23 under the leadership of chief minister Siddaramaiah.
