The Government of Andhra Pradesh has reportedly embarked on an ambitious mission to transform Visakhapatnam into a next-generation metropolis by replicating Mumbai's proven urban development framework. According to sources, a high-level state delegation recently studied the planning mechanisms of CIDCO and MMRDA to implement similar strategies for the coastal city's Vizag 2.0 and Bay City masterplans.

The initiative reportedly aims to reshape Vizag's urban, economic, and infrastructural landscape by adopting Mumbai-style land monetisation techniques, transit-oriented development, and institutional governance models. Industry observers suggest this marks a significant shift from traditional grant-dependent urbanisation towards a market-driven, self-sustaining city-building approach that has been transforming industrial smart cities across India.

Key Urban Planning Elements Borrowed from Mumbai

The state government has reportedly identified several critical elements from Mumbai's urban governance model for implementation in Vizag.
