Mumbai is the Tallest of all

With a lion's share of 77% of India's tall buildings, Mumbai is well positioned to keep its dominant position in tall building construction thanks to its ability to charge higher prices than other cities.

According to CBRE's research, Mumbai has the 14th-highest concentration of tall buildings in Asia and the 17th-highest concentration worldwide.

To be considered a tall building, a structure must be higher than 150 metres. The percentage of India's tall buildings that are located in the cities of Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Noida is 8%, 7%, and 5%, respectively. Gurgaon, Bangalore, and Chennai each account for 1% of India's skyscraper count.

Expansion to the periphery of existing urban areas is a prevalent phenomenon in India's main cities.

Notable tall projects in the NCR include the 300-meter-tall Supernova in Noida, the 198.84-meter-tall Trump Towers in Gurugram, the 190-meter-tall The Leela Sky Villas in Delhi, and the 199.7-meter-tall Raheja Revanta in Gurugram.

The ATC Tower, which will rise to a height of 101.9 metres when finished; the Pitampura TV Tower, which is 235 metres in height; the Civic Centre, which is 102 metres in height; and the renowned Qutab Minar, which is 72.5 metres in height are all prominent towering buildings in Delhi.

Mumbai has shown that this can work in certain areas, but most cities still depend largely on horizontal growth.

Developers and other interested parties in Hyderabad have been eyeing vertical expansion for the last several years, hoping to take advantage of the state of Telangana's generous Floor Space Index (FSI) rules.
