Asian Paints Art House - Mumbai Urban Art Festival (MUAF) - 2023

Asian Paints and the St+art India Foundation recently launched the 'Asian Paints Art House' during the Mumbai Urban Art Festival (MUAF), coupled with an exclusive glimpse of 'Illusions' as part of the Sassoon Dock Art Project.

The initiative also resulted in the designation of "Silver Escapade" as the Asian Paints Color of the Year for 2023.

As one of the most notable works during MUAF, the Asian Paints Art House was created to resemble an oceanic node. Since Sassoon Dock has a visceral connection to the water and is experiencing a new kind of gathering of culture, art, and people, our objective was to construct a maelstrom that draws together currents in the Art House, so producing an energy vortex.

It was made from rubbish, detritus, repurposed textiles, and other discarded materials discovered on the pier. Inspired by creative living and modular architecture, the Art House will also investigate what a "house" may be. Additionally, The Art House integrates the Color of the Year — Silver Escapade — in extremely intriguing ways.

In contrast, Sassoon Dock Art Project - Illusions comments on some of the intricacies of our transactional world by presenting different, fluid, and broad perspectives. It is accessible to the public from January 13 through February 22.

"Silver Escapade" was unveiled as the Asian Paints Color of the Year 2023 during the event, showing a hue suggestive of time travel and technology, as well as the colour of child craft, wellness, and auspicious new beginnings in India, a hue of optimism, celebration, and glitz.

The British artist Steve Messam produced an installation that wonderfully embodies the spirit of the colour.

At the inauguration of the Art House, Asian Paints and the St+Art India Foundation debuted five new works by visual artist Amrit Pal Singh.

"Toy Faces" is a set of portraits inspired by nostalgia and youthful awe. Toys are artefacts that remind us of a fantastic, unlimited period when the term cynical did not exist. The collection honours historical figures and fictitious characters to remind you of how they influenced you when you first encountered them in literature. Some are still your idols, while others aren't as spectacular as they once were, but they all inspire you to be better for a while, and Toy Faces is about reliving that experience.

Amrit has developed a number of Toy Faces over the last two years, and its unique aesthetic serves as his canvas. For MUAF, he stretched this canvas to five other artists, resulting in a lively collaboration showcasing a variety of techniques and media.

Some of the NFTs also include Silver Escapade, the Asian Paints Color of the Year for 2023.

Amit Syngle, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Asian Paints, said,

"We are pleased for the public to see what has been built at Sassoon Dock, which represents Mumbai City's art and culture in a manner that Mumbai may never have seen or experienced." Illusions is another another historic initiative we've launched at Sassoon Dock as part of our joint mission to honour Mumbai and its inhabitants. A call to the St+Art India Foundation for co-curating the Mumbai Urban Art Festival and continuing our long-standing cooperation."
