A cutting-edge waste recycling plant in Dahisar, established by the BMC, has processed 16,000 metric tonnes of construction and demolition debris into reusable materials. Located in Kokanipada, this facility converts rubble into sand, paver blocks, and benches, promoting sustainable urban development.

Efficient Debris Collection Through "Debris on Call"

Debris removal is managed via the "Debris on Call" helpline. Once contacted, municipal vehicles inspect the site, and if over 500 kg of debris is identified, the removal cost is shared with the waste collector. The debris is transported to the plant within 48 hours, ensuring swift and compliant waste disposal.

Aligned with Environmental Regulations

This initiative adheres to the Union Government’s waste management rules under the Ministry of Environment. Dumping waste indiscriminately is prohibited, and disposal must follow strict guidelines. A private contractor, appointed by the BMC for 20 years, oversees waste collection, transportation, and scientific processing at the plant.

Tech-Driven Approach to Recycling

The entire process, from debris collection to recycling, is streamlined through a mobile app, ensuring efficiency and transparency. By transforming waste into valuable resources, this project sets a benchmark for sustainable waste management in urban India.
