Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially inaugurated two significant highway developments in the Delhi-NCR region, announcing the completion of the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) Alipur–Dichaon Kalan segment. The projects represent a combined investment of nearly ₹11,000 crore, according to government officials.
Delhi Section of Dwarka Expressway Opens with Metro Integration
The Prime Minister revealed that the newly inaugurated Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway development projects spans 10.1 kilometers with an approximate cost of ₹5,360 crore. Officials explained that the project has been structured into two distinct packages.
The first package covers 5.9 kilometers from Shiv Murti to the Road Under Bridge at Dwarka Sector-21, while the second package extends 4.2 kilometers from Dwarka Sector-21 to the Delhi-Haryana border. Government sources confirmed that the expressway will provide enhanced connectivity to UER-II and seamlessly integrate with Delhi Metro's Blue and Orange Lines, Yashobhoomi, Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka bus depot.
UER-II Project Completes Western Delhi Ring Road Vision
The Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) Alipur–Dichaon Kalan segment, carrying an investment of approximately ₹5,580 crore, forms a crucial part of a 75.7-kilometer, six-lane semi-circular expressway around western Delhi. Transportation authorities indicated that the project includes strategic spurs to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, significantly enhancing regional road infrastructure and transport efficiency.
Officials projected that these combined infrastructure developments will substantially decongest key routes and reduce travel time, with the Singhu border to IGI Airport commute expected to be completed in just 40 minutes. The projects are also anticipated to contribute to pollution reduction across the region through improved traffic flow.
Strategic Benefits Target Traffic and Environmental Improvements
Government representatives highlighted that the new infrastructure will address persistent bottlenecks at Inner and Outer Ring Roads and critical intersections including Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-9. The projects are designed to strengthen integration with existing train, bus, and metro networks to promote seamless last-mile connectivity for commuters.
Environmental officials noted that UER-II incorporates scientific utilization of waste materials, contributing to urban land reclamation and reducing environmental strain. These infrastructure boost projects represent a significant step toward sustainable urban development.
Political Leaders Emphasize Development Vision
Prime Minister Modi described the inauguration as part of a broader initiative to transform Delhi into a "model of a developed India," focusing on improving ease of living through strategic infrastructure development. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini praised the project's potential role in boosting industrial and commuter connectivity throughout the region.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta were present at the inauguration ceremony, emphasizing the collaborative approach to regional infrastructure development.
