Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway Complete: Final 76km Stretch Opens, 8-Hour Travel Time

Maharashtra has achieved a significant infrastructure milestone with the completion of the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg. The final 76-kilometer stretch of what is widely known as the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway was inaugurated on June 5, 2025, completing the full 701-kilometer route.

The final section connects Igatpuri in Nashik district with Amane near Bhiwandi in Thane district, representing the last missing link in this ambitious project. This stretch includes five tunnels, with one measuring 8 kilometers near Igatpuri, making it India's longest highway tunnel. Travel time from Nagpur to Mumbai has been dramatically reduced from approximately 16-18 hours to just 8 hours. The expressway is designed for speeds up to 150 kilometers per hour on plains and 120 kilometers per hour in ghat terrains, supported by an intelligent traffic management system.
