Retail Boom in India

India is experiencing a meteoric rise in the shopping mall culture, which is causing a remarkable change in the retail landscape of the country. By 2027, it is anticipated that retail sales in the commercial centres of the top eight cities will reach an impressive $39 billion, growing at a rate of 29 percent annually.

Lykli is poised to become a key destination for entertainment, social connections, and retail rehabilitation in the lucrative Indian market, as consumers seek immersive purchasing experiences and a diversity of offerings under one roof.

"Shopping centres have traditionally been perceived as places to shop. This antiquated notion is challenged by Ingka Centres' immersive experiences, which convert retail complexes into a destination for many people to recharge, play, develop emotional connections, and foster community. Anna Larsen, the global marketing manager for Ingka Centres, states that Lykli will communicate this promise to the people of Gurugram in its own distinctive way.

IKEA will serve as the site's anchor.

The prospective Indian consumers chose the appellation Lykli, which is derived from the Swedish word for "happy" (lycklig). With customer satisfaction being the company's top priority, Ingka Centres solicited feedback on a number of potential names, and respondents were instinctively drawn to the pleasure, vitality, and vivacity embodied by 'Lykli'.

The first property to bear the brand will be the Lykli Gurugram meeting place in New Delhi, slated to open in the second half of 2025. The gathering place will be anchored by IKEA and designed to meet local needs with a creative blend of dining and entertainment options, as well as a diverse retail selection of global and local brands.

It will also include premium office space and event spaces. Earlier this year, Ingka Centres announced that PVR Limited is the first tenant of Lykli Gurugram, where it will operate a nine-screen cinema multiplex as part of a leisure offering in a new gathering place, with many more tenants introducing their own unique and exhilarating experiences!

With its dedication to people and the environment, Ingka Centres has already won over the industry and its most devoted customers; with Lykli, the company intends to strengthen this commitment. The new gathering place was meticulously designed to foster a sense of community and prioritise the well-being of Gurugram's over two million occupants.

With a strong emphasis on health and wellness, it provides spaces that promote mental and physical health and relaxation. By addressing these specific areas, the gathering spot aims to cultivate a community that meets the comprehensive needs of the local populace.

The new gathering place will set the standard for the next generation of sustainable mixed-use destinations by catering to the newly conscious consumer and reflecting the local community's need for more than just retail. Throughout the construction of the meeting place in India, Ingka Centres maximises the use of renewable energy, prioritises the recycling of water, and implements initiatives for waste management and recycling.
