iNaturewatch Foundation - Taloja Hill, Kharghar Sector 35-G

Kharghar, Navi Mumbai:

Taloja Hill's voluntary three-year reforestation initiative by iNaturewatch Foundation has yielded significant results, including enhanced conditions for fauna, vegetation, soil, water, and eco-conservation.

The project on 7.3 hectares near Kharghar's sector 35-G, launched by iNaturewatch Foundation with the help of the local community during the pandemic, has resulted in an increase in plant species from 38 to 172, insects from 39 to 89, birds from 39 to 89, and amphibians from nine to 22, according to Dr. V. Subhalaxmi, Founder of the non-profit organisation.

During the pandemic and quarantine, Dr. Subhalaxmi said it would be difficult to convince personnel to plant 8,000 trees.

Bittu Sahgal, president of the BNHS, recently unveiled iNaturewatch's Portable Field Guide to Taloja Hill Forest, which is based on the initiative.

Sahgal, who is also the founder of Sanctuary Nature Foundation, stated that there is a misconception among some planners that forests impede development, which is the reason for the widespread devastation. As carbon sinks, tree cover contributes to the preservation of the environment.

Sanctuary Nature Foundation is working with schoolchildren to raise environmental awareness.
