The central government has officially approved a significant infrastructure development that promises to transform regional connectivity, with the Noida Metro's Aqua Line extension to Boraki receiving the green light for completion by 2028. Officials announced that this strategic 2.6-kilometre elevated corridor will introduce two new stations—Junpat and Boraki—marking a major milestone for urban mobility in the National Capital Region.

Strategic Infrastructure Development

The approved project represents a crucial step in expanding the existing Aqua Line beyond its current terminal at the Depot Station, extending deeper into Greater Noida's Boraki region. Transportation authorities revealed that the ₹416 crore investment is being positioned as a key enabler for the region's long-term transit and economic development plans.

According to official projections, this expansion will support nearly 60,000 daily commuters by 2031, significantly easing road traffic while enabling seamless multimodal integration across Noida and Greater Noida connectivity with the upcoming Noida International Airport.

Project Specifications and Timeline

Total Length 2.6 km
New Stations Junpat and Boraki
Estimated Project Cost ₹416 crore
Completion Timeline 3 years
Expected Ridership by 2031 60,000 passengers/day

Funding Structure

The project's financial framework involves a collaborative approach with multiple stakeholders contributing to the development:

  • Central Government contribution: 20%
  • Uttar Pradesh Government share: 20%
  • National Capital Region Planning Board loan: 60%

Airport Connectivity Enhancement

Transportation planners emphasized that the Boraki extension serves a crucial role in connecting Noida Metro directly to the multi-modal transport hub (MMTH) planned near Boraki. This hub is designed to integrate railways, inter-city and state bus services, and a rapid rail corridor, all linking to the Jewar-based Noida International Airport connectivity.

Officials indicated that once operational, this connectivity will drastically improve access for travelers commuting between Delhi NCR and the airport, establishing Boraki as a vital interchange point in the region's transport ecosystem.

Traffic Decongestion and Urban Mobility Solutions

The existing Aqua Line currently operates along a 29.7-km stretch between Noida Sector 51 and Depot Station, serving thousands of daily riders. Transport authorities explained that the upcoming extension is specifically designed to absorb rising passenger demand while reducing vehicular pressure on arterial roads connecting Noida and Greater Noida.

Engineering teams confirmed that the design of the Boraki extension prioritizes multimodal integration, allowing for smooth interchanges between metro, bus, and rail modes. This approach is expected to ease congestion and reduce travel times significantly, especially during peak hours.

Broader Network Expansion Vision

Metro officials revealed that the Boraki stretch forms part of a broader expansion vision for the Aqua Line. Plans are currently underway for a 17-km extension from Sector 51 to Knowledge Park V and an 11.6-km connection from Sector 142 to Botanical Garden, which will further strengthen links with the Delhi Metro network.

These additional extensions are awaiting final approvals but align with the larger goal of integrating Noida Metro's infrastructure with key transit nodes across the National Capital Region, similar to Mumbai Metro's infrastructure development.

Real Estate and Economic Impact

Real estate experts anticipate that the green light for the Boraki corridor marks a significant milestone for public transport in the region. Industry analysts suggest that with its promise of enhanced last-mile connectivity, airport access, and reduced traffic congestion, the project is poised to deliver long-term benefits to commuters, businesses, and property development along the corridor.

Urban planners noted that as Noida and Greater Noida continue to evolve as economic and residential hotspots, improved mobility infrastructure will play a central role in shaping the region's urban future and attracting further investment.
