The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has revealed that the strategic flyover section connecting Dindoshi Court to Film City, a critical component of the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road project, is expected to become fully operational by May 16, 2026. This development marks a significant milestone in transforming North Mumbai's east-west connectivity landscape.

Game-Changing Infrastructure for North Mumbai Connectivity

The newly constructed flyover will serve as a vital feeder route to the project's twin tunnels spanning 6.6 kilometers beneath Sanjay Gandhi National Park, eventually emerging at Mulund. This Mumbai infrastructure upgrade is poised to dramatically reduce travel times and alleviate traffic congestion across northern suburbs of the city.

Project Overview and Financial Details

Project Name Goregaon–Mulund Link Road (GMLR)
Flyover Section Dindoshi Court to Film City
Expected Completion Date May 16, 2026
Project Cost ₹145 crore
Total Corridor Length 12.2 kilometers
Projected Travel Time Reduction From 75 minutes to approximately 25 minutes

Construction Milestones and Current Progress Status

According to civic authorities, the work order for this ambitious project was officially issued in January 2022. However, actual on-ground execution commenced in October 2022, facing initial delays attributed to casting yard establishment and design finalization processes.

Infrastructure Development Breakdown

The construction progress reveals that out of 31 total piers required for the flyover, 27 have been successfully completed. The remaining four piers are currently under construction at Ratnagiri Junction. Of the 26 construction spans planned, 12 have already been finished, with the remaining 14 spans scheduled for completion by February 15, 2026.

Approach Road Completion Timeline

Dindoshi Court Side January 31, 2026
Film City (Chitranagari) Side April 30, 2026

The flyover architecture features a 90-degree turn at Ratnagiri Junction, beginning from Dindoshi Court and descending near Film City, also recognized as Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari, the historic center of Indian cinema.

Mumbai's Fourth Major East-West Traffic Corridor

The GMLR initiative represents Mumbai's fourth significant east-west arterial connection, designed to enhance cross-city movement particularly in northern suburban areas. This strategic corridor joins three other crucial infrastructure projects boosting Mumbai's connectivity.

Existing East-West Corridors

Transformative Impact on Commuter Experience

Transportation experts anticipate that upon full completion, the GMLR corridor will revolutionize travel efficiency between Goregaon and Mulund. The projected travel time reduction from 75 minutes to merely 25 minutes represents a remarkable improvement that will significantly benefit daily commuters and commercial transportation alike.

Future Integration and Expansion Plans

Following the flyover's completion and its seamless integration with the tunnel network, the GMLR corridor is expected to establish an uninterrupted east-west passage. This development will substantially reduce pressure on existing roadways while accommodating future transit requirements in Mumbai's rapidly expanding urban zones. The project aligns with broader initiatives like Third Mumbai 2040 development vision, promising enhanced connectivity for emerging residential and commercial hubs.

Similar to other major infrastructure projects transforming regional connectivity, the GMLR is expected to catalyze real estate development and economic growth along its corridor. The improved accessibility will likely make areas such as Goregaon West even more attractive for residential investments.
