The NHAI has approved a strategic 14-kilometre link road from Morbe to Kalamboli via Taloja, set to connect the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway directly with JNPA, Atal Setu, and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport—bypassing the delayed Virar-Alibaug corridor.

IRB Infrastructure has reportedly transferred its 27.5-km Gandeva–Ena HAM highway project to IRB InvIT Fund for ₹513 crore as part of its asset monetization strategy to strengthen its balance sheet and pursue new highway development opportunities.

Road developers have urged NHAI to revamp the Build-Operate-Transfer framework to attract greater private investment in upcoming highway projects worth over ₹62,000 crore, proposing fairer risk allocation and technology-driven toll monitoring systems.

A plan to construct a new expressway adjacent to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway is now underway. The first phase of this project will stretch from JNPA (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority) to Chowk (Karjat). The highway will later extend from Chowk towards Pune and eventually reach Bengaluru.

After strong increase in the previous two fiscal years, construction equipment sales were unchanged in the first quarter. Road building project awards slowed and elections lowered demand, causing this stalemate.
