The Government of India announced a comprehensive digital land record system covering all rural and urban areas nationwide, aiming to eliminate ownership disputes and improve property transaction transparency through real-time data access.

India aims to achieve 100% land records digitisation by December 2025, with 99.8% already completed, as part of major economic reforms to boost growth and transparency.

Chandigarh has been selected for the pilot launch of the 'Naksha' project, covering 30.61 sq km and five villages to digitise urban land records. The initiative aims to improve transparency, reduce disputes, and support better urban planning under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Program
