The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has reportedly issued a fresh tender worth ₹36 crore to resume construction of the long-delayed Thakurli Flyover in the Kalyan–Dombivli region. According to sources, the project had remained inactive for nearly seven years, with the pending section between Thakurli Railway Phatak and Mahsoba Chowk expected to address chronic traffic congestion and significantly enhance connectivity in the area.

Land Acquisition Hurdles Now Resolved

The flyover project was originally halted due to delays in land acquisition and compensation issues, which had reportedly affected approximately 60 homes. Industry sources indicate that these matters have now been resolved, paving the way for the project to be reactivated. The first phase of the flyover, which connected Dombivli East and West, was completed back in 2018. This new contract aims to complete the unfinished extension toward Thakurli and establish its link to the 90-Feet Road corridor.

Construction activities are expected to resume within the next one to two months, according to reports, now that the tendering process and necessary approvals are in motion.

Major Relief for Daily Commuters

Once completed, the elevated flyover is expected to provide a smoother route for residents and daily commuters, offering a faster alternative to the narrow and congested internal roads that currently plague the region. The project promises to ease traffic flow between Dombivli, Thakurli, and Kalyan, potentially reducing travel time and lowering fuel consumption for thousands of commuters. This development aligns with the mega infrastructure projects transforming Thane region.

The Kalyan-Thane corridor has witnessed significant growth in recent years, and improved connectivity through such infrastructure projects is expected to further accelerate development in the area.

Potential Boost for Real Estate Development

Beyond traffic relief, industry experts suggest that the completed flyover may attract new residential and commercial development along its corridor. The improved accessibility could potentially boost real estate interest in surrounding neighbourhoods, similar to how infrastructure development has boosted realty growth across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The Dombivli East property market has already been witnessing steady appreciation, and analysts believe that enhanced connectivity through such flyover projects could further strengthen property values in the region. The MMRDA has been actively raising funds for infrastructure projects across the metropolitan region, reflecting its commitment to improving urban mobility.

The revival of this project comes at a time when the Mumbai suburbs including Kalyan are experiencing a real estate boom, making infrastructure development crucial for sustainable growth.
