Maharashtra Residents Can Now Register Properties at Any Office Within the District

In a major ease-of-doing-property move, citizens across Maharashtra can now register property documents at any sub-registrar office within the same district—irrespective of where the property is situated within that district. The announcement came from the state's property registration department as it rolled out the One State, One Registration system across all 519 sub-registrar offices on May 1.

From Mumbai Pilot to Statewide Rollout

Initially tested as a pilot in Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban across 42 offices, the initiative was deemed a success and has now been extended to the entire state. Officials clarified that citizens living in urban centres can now register their rural property in the same district at a convenient city office—and vice versa.

Inter-District Registration Coming Soon

Inspector General of Registration and Controller of Stamps, Ravindra Binwade, confirmed the department's plans to soon enable inter-district registration, allowing property owners to register documents in a different district altogether. Technical adjustments are underway, and the feature is expected in the near future.

Faceless Systems Expand: Pune to Mumbai

The Faceless Deed Registration System, first launched in Pune Rural in February for Tenancy Agreement 2.0, has now been extended to Mumbai City and Suburban. Additionally, the newly introduced Isarita 2.0 enables online registration of General Power of Attorney and Adoption Deeds—without visiting any office.

Faster, Smarter Governance Ahead

DIG (IT) Abhay Mohite highlighted that helplines are being put in place to assist citizens with the new systems. He added that these reforms are designed to fast-track property transactions and improve public service. More document types are expected to be added to the faceless registration system, reinforcing the state's broader digital governance agenda.
