Gurugram Master Roads Under GMDA Scanner: 72 Notices for Illegal Constructions Issued

72 Violations Flagged on Critical Urban Stretches

In a bid to decongest key traffic choke points in Gurugram, the enforcement wing of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) reportedly issued 72 notices on Monday targeting unauthorised constructions, encroachments, and illegal access points across sectors 47, 49, 50, 51, and 57.

The move was reportedly prompted by persistent traffic snarls observed on two vital road stretches — from Sohna Road to Mayfield Garden and from Baani Square to Golf Course Extension Road. These areas have been marred by rampant encroachment and poor access control, severely disrupting traffic flow.

Encroachments and Access Violations Identified

Out of the total notices served, 48 were issued to commercial establishments for occupying the right of way using temporary structures such as makeshift shops and kiosks. An additional 24 notices were handed out for setting up access points to master roads without the mandatory permissions from GMDA.

One-Week Deadline for Compliance

Violators have been directed to remove the encroachments and apply for proper access approvals within a week. RS Batth, District Town Planner and nodal enforcement officer at GMDA, emphasized a zero-tolerance policy toward illegal access points. He said that such actions violate urban planning norms and worsen traffic congestion across critical roadways.

Hotspot Zones and Future Measures

The stretches under enforcement pass through high-traffic zones including Park Hospital, Good Earth Mall, and Baani Square. Residents of prominent societies such as Malibu Towne, Sispal Vihar, South City 2, Nirvana Country, and Mayfield Garden have reportedly expressed concern over worsening peak-hour traffic jams.

To resolve these issues, GMDA is also said to be considering the development of service roads and restoring the designated right of way along these roads to improve long-term urban mobility.
